Abstract Submission is now closed

The Scientiffic Committee of AlgaEurope 2018 is impressed by the fantastic submissions that show how big the algae research field is at this moment!  This year a record number of 250 (!) submissions has been received.

Unfortunately, due to this large number the selection is taking a little longer than anticipated. The acceptance notifications process is expected to be completed by approximately Monday 15 October

Abstract topics

Please choose the best-fitting abstract topic. The Scientific Committee has derived thematic tracks:

Session 1: Microalgae research and development - from genetics to cultivation

Session 2: European developments in microalgae - novel approaches, products, processes

Session 3: Biorefineries - combining commodities with high value products

Session 4: Life cycle assessments, energy balances, techno-economic studies, resource assessments, locations

Session 5: Animal and aquaculture feeds

Session 6: Special session on macroalgae

Session 7: Novel algal foods - latest developments in regulations and marketing in nutrition and animal feed

Session 8: Algae and agriculture: biostimulants, biofertilizers

Session 9: Enviromental applications: wastewater treatment and water recycling, nutrients and water recycling.
                  CO2 utilization and abatement

Call for abstracts guidelines


The text must be formatted in Arial for text (other are not allowed ). The abstract text may not be longer than a maximum of 250 words.


Authors may include a maximum of one picture or graph or one table (of up to ten rows x ten columns) per abstract. Words within the table count towards the total maximum of words allowed.


Abstract titles must be submitted according to the general rules. Abstract titles will be proofread. 

Presentation types

You can make your preferred selection of the following presentation types ( oral, poster presentation). Please note that the programme committee may or may not follow your preference; the final presentation type will be communicated after the selection.


Authors are asked to enter 5 keywords to better define the abstract content.

Submit your abstract

You can save your abstract one time only. Please make sure to have all fields completed before you finally submit your abstract. You will receive a confirmation by email after the submission (please make sure to state your correct email address!). Changes in the abstract title are not possible after submission. Please note that emails regarding the submission will be sent to the submitter. All correspondence regarding acceptance or rejection, including further information on the mode of presentation etc. will be sent to the presenting author.

Notifications of acceptance/non-acceptance will be sent to all authors via e-mail no later than October 8, 2018.

Presenting author(s) of accepted abstract must confirm their attendance after acceptance of their abstract within 3 days and must be registered for the conference (before  15 October 2018).

Your poster, PDF or PowerPoint presentation and your full abstract will be made publicly available through AlgaEurope 2018 Conference website after the conferences. Next to that you agree with publication of your photo/video/presentation through the AlgaEurope 2018 website.

Data protection: By registering as an author and by submitting an abstract to AlgaEurope 2018, authors agree that DLG Benelux may use the personal data submitted for the purposes of managing AlgaEurope 2018.

Abstracts not adhering to these guidelines will be rejected. The final decision about acceptance of an abstract will be taken by the AlgaEurope Scientific Committee. AlgaEurope does not correspond on the reasons for acceptance/rejection of an abstract.
