About the speaker:
Fayza has 20+ years of experience in R&D, using genetic engineering to develop solutions across a wide range of applications, from health and healthcare to commodity chemicals.
Her expertise encompasses both human cells and a wide range of microorganisms (bacteria, yeasts, microalgae...). Fayza is also actively involved in French initiatives to reduce biotherapeutic manufacturing costs through the Toulouse Industrial Biotechnology for Health (TIBH) integrator, where she serves as Executive Director.
A pioneer in microalgal genome engineering, she established the first proof of concept for targeted gene inactivation using TALEN technology and achieved the first demonstration of multiplex gene inactivation through Cas9 ribonucleoprotein (RNP) delivery. Her current work focuses on reprogramming microalgal metabolism and developing next-generation microalgal cell factories for the production of biotherapeutics using advanced genetic engineering approaches.
