FeyeCon - Site Visit - Weesp

FeyeCon D&I is a SME founded in 2000 and based in Weesp, the Netherlands. FeyeCon has large experience in development of products, equipment and processes based on pressurized CO2 such as the extraction of natural pigments, functional oils and precipitation of proteins from different sources such as microalgae. FeyeCon multidisciplinary teams possess expertise in food, pharmaceutical, renewable and cosmetics technologies, material sciences, quality assurance and process/equipment design with more than 60 % of the scientific staff holding a PhD. FeyeCon has extensive experience in project management in both R&D national and international projects as well as in >300 commercial projects with SMEs and multinationals (e.g. Unilever, DSM). FeyeCon develops proof of concept, process development and design for small scale (toll) production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) batches in clean room facilities, operating under cGMP guidelines. FeyeCon extraction and refining technology enables selective isolation of active constituents resulting in improved product quality. FeyeCon has long experience (since 2007) in processing of aquatic biomass (microalgae and seaweed) for natural pigments, proteins, polysaccharides, functional oils and fats.

FeyeCon Carbon Dioxide Technologies is an international product and process development company. FeyeCon is specialized in high pressure CO2-processing, as a cleantech solution reducing waste stream and energy costs.
FeyeCon develops, design and implements applications for various industrial branches, among which the food industry, pharmaceutical industry and chemical industries.  Our set of innovative technologies has huge environmental potential, e.g. by replacing organic solvents, and reducing effluent flows as well as energy costs. Besides that, they have shown to have great potential clean, safe products with unique properties or functionalities. Food processes have been developed for omega-oil purification, protein isolation, natural colorants stabilisation, juice pasteurisation, mild drying, fat micronisation and triggered/controlled release microencapsulation. Pilot product lines have been established for a number of sensitive ingredient micro-encapsulates, healthy vegetable snacks and instant texturizing powders, among others.
AlgaePARC - Site Visit - Wageningen
At AlgaePARC we develop sustainable processes for cost effective conversion of sunlight into functional products by photosynthetic organisms.
Three distinctive features guide the research at AlgaePARC:

  •  Whole chain approach: We integrating the full production chain. Our research comprises the study of cellular processes, strain improvement, cultivation optimization, scale-up, biorefinery, product development, process design and chain analysis.
  • Multidisciplinary approach: We ensure that different expertises are integrated. Both, biological and engineering aspects of cultivation and biorefinery of algae are included.
  • Bridge from fundamental research to applications: Working together with more than 40 industrial partners, Provincial and National governments and EU we connect research to marketable products and business opportunities. We can develop technologies both on a lab- and pilot- scale and move from initial idea to the production processes that deliver competitive and innovative products to our industrial partners. Our practical emphasis is also reflected in the AlgaePARC outdoors and indoors facility, where different designs of scalable photobioreactors are compared.
